Self Confidence Building Techniques

Self confidence is the ability to believe in yourself and your capabilities. It clearly is an ability because self confidence can be practiced and learned, like reading and writing, like any sport or craft. This is great news if you are one of the millions who suffer low self confidence like I once did. But the task of self confidence building can seem daunting. Believe me, it’s certainly not a quick and easy transformation unless you have the right tools from the get-go. After all, you’ve lacked self confidence for a long time now. But trust me, you’ll get there. And I can help!
From my experience, here’s what you don’t need: useless tips to develop self confidence, gimmicks that won’t really work, costly confidence workshops or courses, shortcuts based on guesswork and wishful thinking. You will never need to buy another self-help book or download another e-book about self confidence building — because most of them fail to deliver new revelations and are a waste of time and money.
What you do need is to ask a simple question…
Can You Live with Low Self Confidence Anymore?
The obvious answer is a resounding YES. What, did you expect me to lie? You can certainly live with low self confidence — and suffer just as I did for over 5 years. But I’m here to inform you that living with low self confidence is absolutely, unequivocally a choice. You can change! You will change! Below I will outline some of the best self confidence building tips that actually work. I use them side by side with my own solution at Uplifter.com. It’s called Online Inspiration Engine, an application in Positive Psychology I developed after 5 years of struggling with low self esteem and self confidence. I will also explain how uplifting your self confidence can benefit your life in truly amazing ways.
Self Confidence Building Strategies
Be prepared.
Imagine the last time a situation overwhelmed you with anxiety and stress due to your low self confidence. Did you enter the scenario fully armed and ready to deal with any and all contingencies? Probably not.
Lack of preparation breeds indecision and anxiety.
Preparation removes doubt, reduces fear, increases comfort and builds self confidence.
When I was a child I used to build pillow forts with my friends in the basement. Playing in them was great fun during the day. But once during the night I woke up and ventured down the creaky staircase. Only a dribble of light seeped into the basement through the door above, just enough to visualize the silhouette of my towering pillow fort — plus all sorts of creeping dark figures.
Then suddenly I couldn’t move.
Anxiety and fear of the unknown sent tingles across my skin. Senses heightened, I found the silence somehow deafening as I strained to hear any sort of … movement. I opened my eyes as wide as possible, but all I could imagine were monsters lurking just outside of sight. If I had just flipped the switch at the top of the stairs…
I would have seen there was nothing to worry about. I would have avoided all that anxiety. It turned out, thankfully, that my basement was not a hideout for hungry monsters, but boy, what a relief it would have been to know that from the start!
So, when possible, it’s ideal to plan ahead. For those rare occasions in life when preparation is not an option, you’ll need other tools that will serve as your backup strategy. Tools you can’t afford not to have. You’ll need self confidence building strategies that promote:
* Building a positive attitude
* Higher emotional intelligence
It’s like you’re that child playing in the basement with the lights on when the power fails. Without these tools you might feel hopeless, frightened, and overwhelmed by your own emotions. With them, you’re capable of handling even the most unexpected curveballs life throws your way. So be prepared before you enter into any stressful situation. But if you can’t be prepared, rely on your positive attitude, emotional intelligence, and self esteem to guide you through the dark.
Be Bold.
When you lack self confidence, you need to take action and force yourself to change. The specific action you need to take depends on where you lack self confidence. But one common trouble spot many of us share is our body image.
If you don’t have confidence in your physical appearance, you need to make a commitment to yourself right now, today, to take active measures and change for the better. After all, you look at yourself in the mirror every morning; if you don’t like what you see you’ll let this negative tone carry over into the rest of your day. Below I will list the self confidence building, action taking tips that worked for me.
Diet.
Nothing improves your self confidence more than eating and exercising right.
The simple strategy of eating 5 small meals a day instead of a couple large meals will enable you to fool yourself into feeling skinnier even though you consume the same number of calories. Plus, if you avoid huge meals it’s likely you’ll end up eating less and getting fit without even really trying.
Another easy way to shed pounds is to replace one unhealthy snack per day with a bowl of vegetables. My favorite is a hot heaping bowl of asparagus, topped with plenty of pepper, in place of a turkey sandwich. Substituting just one meal or snack per day with a lower calorie alternative (it doesn’t have to be veggies, either) can make a big difference in no time.
Stop killing yourself with fad diets and take an incremental approach like this.
You’ll surprise yourself!
Get in Shape, Girl!
If you can’t find the time or motivation to diet, stop making excuses; there’s not a reason in the world you can’t cut back if you focus a little and set reasonable goals. That said, if you need more help with your self confidence after getting starting on the tip above — no excuses! — then exercising is a great supplement.
You don’t have to run weekly marathons or be a great athlete, either. If you can walk to the fridge, you can exercise!
During exercise, your brain releases endorphins, the chemical in our bodies that acts like a painkiller. This gives you a natural high. Afterward, you feel more fit, a sense of accomplishment, and generally better about yourself. Exercise is also a common prescription in the fight against anxiety and depression, not to mention countless other health problems.
Start by exercising at an easy pace, and strive to improve by drips and drabs every day. By increasing effort incrementally, you guarantee yourself an easy transition as your endurance improves so you won’t get discouraged and quit.
I guarantee you in just weeks, not months, you’ll notice results and your self confidence will soar — especially when people start complimenting you left and right.
New Look.
Besides altering your physical appearance through exercise, you can change your hairstyle or wardrobe to improve self confidence.
Walking around with a new ‘do or in that spiffy ensemble can really do wonders to your self esteem and self confidence. Suddenly, people who might not have given you a second glance will take notice. It’s not that you were somehow unworthy of this attention before, but that by feeling so much more desirable and self confident you’ll almost subconsciously draw people into your life. You’ll also be more likely to engage others and try new things.
When it comes increasing your self confidence, a new look can go a long way.
By heeding the above self confidence building tips, by taking charge of your life in these simple yet effective ways, you can get a grip on your life, and take success to new heights.
Is Low Self Confidence Costing Your Personal Life?
When it comes to the opposite sex, nothing is a bigger turnoff than low self confidence. There’s a common misconception that jerks get all the girls, but a closer inspection reveals these “bad boys” are nothing more than the ones with supremely high self confidence. They’re the ones who walk across the room with aplomb, make eye contact, speak directly, and, importantly, go after and get what they want. (Not all of these guys are jerks, by the way, but some of them certainly are — and they still get the girl!)
Don’t think that the same rules don’t apply for “bad girls”. They do! Using self confidence building techniques can give the proverbial nice guy or gal the chance they deserve.
But what if you’re already in a relationship and it’s going nowhere? Both men and women can toil in this co-dependence purgatory because of low self confidence. Have you ever stayed in a relationship out of fear of being alone or fear of never being able to find someone as good as your current partner?
If you have, say hello to low self confidence.
If you want to end a relationship, you’re obviously not that satisfied with your mate. You’re not doing yourself or your partner any favors by prolonging the inevitable. It’s better to move on sooner rather than later before a truly profound opportunity passes you by for someone who is available.
Once you develop high self confidence, you won’t have to settle for less than the best anymore. You’ll be able to start relationships with attractive partners and end them when they become less than satisfactory.
You deserve nothing less!
Has Low Self Confidence Ever Cost You a Promotion?
Low self confidence is a byproduct of having low emotional intelligence. In your day to day life, low self confidence might defeat you in the little battles. You might lose an argument because you don’t have faith in your own opinions, or maybe you’ll miss out on an opportunity because you fear leaving your comfort zone.
But when it comes to your job, low self confidence can truly cost you.
Low self confidence in the workplace can take many detrimental forms, but here are the most common:
* You don’t express your opinions
* You sit in the back of the room at meetings
* You don’t stand up for yourself
* You let others take the credit
* You have a negative attitude
* You’re easily discouraged with your work
Any single one of these signs of low self confidence in the workplace can give your employer pause when considering you for a promotion. If you keep your mouth shut, never get noticed, or get noticed but for negative reasons, you aren’t giving your boss any incentive to move you up the ladder. Take action! You’d be amazed how far a positive attitude and some self confidence will get you at work and in life.
